Catharine Steers Lord

August 6, 1915 — April 21, 2009

Catharine Steers Lord, age 93, of Morning View Village, Maryville, died April 20, 2009, at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was born on Staten Island, NY, where she developed a strong patriotic spirit and admiration for those who serve this country in the military. She enjoyed riding and showing horses. She graduated from Moravian College, Bethlehem, PA, where she met and married her beloved husband of 65 years, Richard (Dick). She considered her primary roles as wife and mother. She was a charter member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Maryville, where she had served as Sunday School teacher and member of the Altar Guild and was a special friend to the children and youth. She received much joy from music and from her friends. She has lived in Alcoa/Maryville, Cleveland, OH, Pittsburgh, PA, Geelong Victoria, Australia. She was preceded in death by her parents, John L. and Sophia MacIntyre Steers; husband, Richard M. Lord; sister, Ruth Moreton; and grandson, David Toth, Jr. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Ralph Burns, of Maryville; daughter, Jean Toth of Dearborn, MI; sister, Edythe Smith, of Freehold, NY; granddaughters, Kathryn Black, of Gallatin, TN, Kelly Hannan, of Hayward, CA and Jennifer Toth, of Dearborn, MI; great-grandchildren, Jarod Black, Nicole Black and Brody Hannan; nieces and nephews. Services will be held Saturday, April 25, 2 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Bob Beasley officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the parish Library.
