Cecil H. Humphrey

May 24, 1920 — September 10, 2011

Cecil Hance Humphrey - age 91 of Maryville passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Saturday September 10, 2011 at Blount Memorial Hospital after suffering a stroke. He was born in Fresno, California and was a member of First United Methodist Church Maryville. He served three years as a combat infantry gliderman in the 17th and 82nd Airborne Divisions in World War II collecting numerous medals. He was a building contractor who designed and built custom homes in East Tennessee as well as many commercial and church properties. His construction knowledge taught many and was unsurpassed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Addison and Ruby Milligan Humphrey; sisters, Velma Humphrey Williams and Charlotte Humphrey Kozera, both of California. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Maxine Houston Humphrey; daughters and sons-in-law, Judie and Bob Giffin of Maryville, Sandi and Alan Bryan of Woodstock, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Rod and Mary Humphrey of Maryville; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren living in Maryville, Georgia, Texas, and California; sister, Rena Humphrey Kidd of Maryville. Cecil loved to water ski and snow ski, challenging his grandchildren at every opportunity. He was an inspiration to all who knew him and he will be missed. Funeral services will be held Monday September 12, at 3:00 P.M. in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Brenda and Larry Carroll officiating. The interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery with Military Honors. Grandsons and granddaughter will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Monday 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Cecil’s name to First United Methodist Church Maryville Music Ministry 804 Montvale Station Rd.
