Charlene Roper Brown of Maryville passed away on Saturday, 23 March, 2013 at 2:40 pm. She was born at home on Dicks Creek on 30 October 1933 in the East Armuchee community of Walker County, Georgia. She dedicated her life to two pursuits: music and service to the Lord as church secretary. Her love for music began at an early age. She and her parents and sister were passionate about Southern Gospel. She played the piano for her first funeral when she was only nine years old. For one year following high school she toured as pianist for the Kettle Sisters, a trio based out of Northwest Georgia. She was a business and English major at Berry College in Rome, Georgia, where she met her future husband, Bob. She served as church pianist at Monte Vista Baptist Church for over 35 years beginning in 1972. Her favorite song was When We All Get to Heaven, but her rendition of When They Ring the Golden Bells was a favorite of the congregation. She joined the staff of Monte Vista Baptist Church as financial secretary in October 1968 and continued in that position until her death. She was preceded in death by her parents, W.H. and Olyra Roper of East Armuchee community of Walker County, Georgia; Infant Daughter, Olyra Mae Brown; Infant Great-granddaughter, Jacqueline Hope Ogle Survivors include her Husband of 57 years, John Robert (Bob) Brown; Children and spouses, Pam and Rick Davis; Ken and Kim Brown; Barbara and James Pennington, all of Maryville; Grandchildren, Sarah (Brown) and Jeremy Carroll of Charlotte, North Carolina; Grant and Abbi Davis of Friendsville; Hope (Houk) Ogle of Sevierville; Jennifer Davis of Chattanooga; Great-grandchildren, Dalton Ray Ogle of Sevierville; Sister, Montine (Mim) Bible of Augusta, Georgia. Pallbearers; Andy Bible (Lilburn, Georgia); Edward Bible (Martinez, Georgia); David Brown (Sebring, Florida); Jeremy Carroll; Grant Davis; Larry Miller (Maryville); Billy Swords (Norman Park, Georgia) Funeral services will be 7:00 P.M. Monday, March 25 at Monte Vista Baptist Church 1735 Old Niles Ferry, Maryville, Tennessee 37803 with Dr. Howard Olive Rev. Jerry Mantooth Rev. Bob Dalton and Rev. Eric Minton officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Monday at the church. Interment and Graveside service will 1:00 P.M. Tuesday March 26 at East Armuchee Baptist Church, 3196 East Armuchee Road, LaFayette, Georgia 30728 In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Building Fund, Monte Vista Baptist Church, 1735 Old Niles Ferry Road, Maryville, Tennessee 37803 or the American Diabetes Association.
