Clinton Loren ''Smokey'' Almond

March 23, 1941 — August 12, 2012

Clinton Loren ''Smokey'' Almond, born March 23, 1941, in Wolsey, South Dakota, passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2012, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was pre-deceased by: son, Anthony Allen Almond; parents, Earl and Mildred Glee Almond; brother, Robert Almond; sister-inlaw, Robynn Almond. Smokey married his high school sweetheart, June Fuller, on November 24, 1961. The family, including daughter, Lori Ann, moved to California in 1963, where Smokey pursued further education at San Bernardino Valley College, and later was employed by the County of San Bernardino School System as a payroll supervisor. Son Scott Alan and daughter Lisa Marie were both born in California. Subsequent moves brought them to Tennessee in 1974. Smokey was with NASCAR for approximately 24 years, where he worked as a builder and pit crew member. He was employed at Charles West Chevrolet and subsequently by Twin City Motors, where he retired from the position of new car sales manager. Smokey enjoyed all sports, but especially golf. Smokey is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, June, daughter Lori of Maryville, son Scott and wife Sheila of Friendsville, daughter Lisa Marie and husband David Freeman of Maryville. Brothers, Douglas Almond and wife Linda, Burton Almond, Del Almond and wife Kay, Norm Almond and wife Debbie, Rocky Almond and wife Lonnie. Sisters, Gleva and husband Jim, Glenda and husband Randy, Carol and husband Bruce, Teresa and husband Dave, and numerous wonderful nieces and nephews. Smokey and June have 6 grandchildren: Jennifer Stamper and husband James, Jade Almond, Brooke, Amber and Colton Almond, and Ellie Freeman. They also have three great-grandchildren, Michael, Jacob and Isabelle Stamper. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Thursday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home followed by a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service with Deacon Ken Long officiating. A Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with Father Bill McKenzie officiating. McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home 982-6812 www.mccammonammonsclick.com
