David William Whitaker

David William Whitaker, was born July 12, 1952, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2022. David was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Imogene Whitaker; sister, Pamela Whitaker Gibson. David was a member of Springview Baptist Church. David graduated from Friendsville High School in 1972. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force serving abroad during the Vietnam War. He retired as a Railroad Engineer with CSX Railroad in 2006. David was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with “The Bandits” at Pine Lakes Golf Course and later, Lambert Acres. He was a devoted Tennessee Men’s Basketball fan and had attended games since 1980. Later in life, watching his grandsons play sports and drag racing brought him enormous pleasure.

He is survived by the love of his life for 43 years, Lynda Hall Whitaker; daughter, Jennifer and son-in-law, Greg Newman; grandsons, Fisher Newman, Tripp Newman, and Graeme Newman; several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Friends may sign the register from 9-3, Thursday, January 20th at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home. Family and friends will meet at Veterans Cemetery, John Sevier Highway in Knoxville at 10:00 AM, Friday, January 21st for a graveside service with Rev. Ben Ward officiating.
