Edward L. Green

December 2, 1940 — June 2, 2023

Edward L. Green, 82, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2023, at Brookdale Sandy Springs after a long battle with dementia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl G. and Mabel Coulter Green; brother, Buddy Gilbert. He went to Fort Craig Elementary, graduated from Maryville High in 1958, attended ETSU, Harvard Business School and graduated from LSU Banking School of the South.


A 51-year career in banking started at Blount National Bank and he retired from First National Bank. After retirement, he loved volunteering at the Welcome Table, Blount County Library, Habitat ReStore, and the Food Connection. He was a member of Jaycees, held several offices in the Maryville Lions Club, and served on the board of the Greenback Fire Department.

Ed married his high school sweetheart, Judy, in 1964. Active all his life, he played baseball and football in high school, continuing to play golf, tennis, and racquetball. He served in the Air National Guard. Ed was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church of Maryville.


He leaves behind his devoted wife, Judith Bryson Green; sons, Glenn and Matthew; granddaughters, Danielle (Kris) and Marissa; great-granddaughters, Charlotte and Lillian; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Becky and Gary Melton.

Many thanks to his doctors, nurses, Gentiva, the staff at Brookdale (who were so attentive), and special thanks to his caregivers, Teresa Chastain, Arin Rose, Jane Howe, and Lauren Bettage.


Family and friends will meet at 1:00 PM, Thursday, June 8, 2023, at the Grandview Pavilion for a memorial service.


In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Welcome Table at First United Methodist Church, 804 Montvale Station Road, Maryville, TN 37803 or Alzheimer’s Assn. of Tennessee.
