Emma was the only child born to Chester Anderson and Maxine Robinson. As a child, Emma was raised by her grandparents, Frank and Emma Foster. Emma is also preceded in death by her sister, Esteena Anderson; brother, Larry McCoy.

Emma went to Howardville High School and became popular as well as becoming a cheerleader. After graduating, she went to college for a short time before moving to Cleveland, Ohio. There at the age of 21 she met and married Charles Everette Chambliss. In the year of 1969 Charles and Emma had a son, Charles Everette Chambliss II. Now know as Eriq Chambliss II.

Emma worked as a Greyhound Bus Clerk before she was offered a job working for Missouri Pacific Railroad in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Eight year later her job moved her to Los Angeles, California where she transitioned to Southern Pacific/Union Pacific Railroad. From Missouri to California to Nebraska and then finally resting in Tennessee.

Here she worked intensely at Corner Stone of Recovery as a volunteer and became a household name. Emma loved her church as well as her church family. However, she loved being called by these names, Emmy, Sista, Grandmother, Nanna, Mom, and most of all Ma.
