Frances Kinton Taylor

Frances Kinton Taylor, age 95, died Sunday morning, February 8, 2015, at Shannondale. Born on April 23, 1919 in Trenton, Tennessee to the late W.R. Kinton, Sr. and Lister Speights Kinton, she was also preceded in death by her husband J. Wilson Taylor and brother W.R. Kinton, Jr. She is survived by children Tom Taylor (wife Nan), Ken Taylor (wife Debbie) and Kay Taylor all of Maryville; grandchildren Whit Taylor (wife Sarah) of St. Petersburg, FL, Anna Taylor of Alcoa, TN, Robert Taylor (wife Katie) of Chicago, IL, and Ben Taylor (wife Sarah) of New York, NY; three great-grandchildren; many loving nieces and nephews; and her extended family of friends and staff members in the skilled care unit of Shannondale. Earning her Junior College degrees from the University of Tennessee Junior College in Martin and her BA and MA degrees from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, she taught in both the Alcoa City Schools and Maryville City Schools. After taking a leave of absence to raise her children, she returned to the Maryville City Schools as a teacher and as one of the initial Guidance Counselors for the school system. Following her retirement from teaching, she served on the City of Maryville Board of Education, during which time she served one term as the Chair. Frances was a member of many clubs and organizations including the Junior Service League, the Chilhowee Club, and several social bridge clubs. She was a founding member of the Maryville City Schools Foundation. As an active member of Broadway United Methodist Church since 1942, she served on several administrative committees, worked in the youth programs, and founded three Sunday School Classes. Funeral services will be held at Broadway United Methodist Church on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at 6:00 pm with the Rev. Laura Rasor presiding, and the family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall of the Church. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery.
