Harry Ward Brooks

BROOKS, Harry Ward, age 87 of Alcoa, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2007, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was born in Claiborne County, TN, to Mae and Andrew Brooks on December 28, 1919. He was the oldest of four children. He graduated from Lincoln Memorial University and taught school one year before accepting employment with the Aluminum Company where he was employed for forty-two years. He retired from the Aluminum Company at Rockdale, TX. Previously he had worked for ALCOA in Surinam, South America. Harry was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church for 53 years. He was a fifty year 32nd degree Mason, was elected Alcoa City Commissioner for eight years and was also a member of Maryville. Rotary. Since retirement he has been involved in numerous civic and church activities serving on the board of Camp Montvale, President of the Beautiful Blount, President of Blount County Child and Family Services, Director of Blount Memorial Hospital Foundation, Graduate of Leadership Blount, and Director of Blount County Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Frances Wyatt Brooks; children, Lynda Dyer of Dallas, TX, Dr. H. Ward Brooks and wife Melanie of Fallbrook, CA, Andrea Jane and husband Dr. Byron Tucker of Tallahassee, FL; grandchildren, Brooks Dyer and wife Vicky of Ovilla, TX, Blythe Reed and husband David of Wylie, TX, and Alison Jones and husband of Brent of Jackson, TN; 4 great granddaughters; sister, Maxie Keck and husband Homer of Alexandria, VA, sisters-in-law, Dorothy Brooks of Alcoa and Matilda Brooks of Harrogate, Deola Wyatt of Knoxville; nephews, Michael Keck of Richmond, VA, Dr. Earl D. Brooks, III of IN, Jimmy and Stephen Wyatt, Michael Wyatt of Oak Ridge, Philip Wyatt of FL; nieces, Margaret Dickey of Knoxville, Patsy Weaver of NC. The interment service will be at 1:00 p.m. Sunday at Grandview Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. at Broadway United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Moore officiating. The family will receive friends at the Church following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Broadway United Methodist Church, 309 E.
