Helen Elizabeth Southwood

February 8, 1921 — June 25, 2014

Helen Elizabeth Southwood, 93, died on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, peacefully as Asbury Place Health Center. She was born in Upton, MA, graduated from Framingham State Teachers College, and met her husband, Al, in Boston during World War II. They were married the same year and after the war moved to Indianapolis to be closer to Al's family. They were married 67 years and had three children, eight grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. Helen taught high school home economics for 20 years. Helen and Al moved to Asbury Place, Maryville, TN, in 2008. She has loved the Lord Jesus for over 80 years, serving Him, studying and teaching the Bible, and praying constantly for her offspring and the spread of the Gospel. Helen enjoyed flower gardening, traveling, quilting, reading, baking and cooking. She is survived by JuneAnn (and Bill) Scales, John (and Jane) Southwood, Evelyn (and David) Grace, and her brothers, Ernie (and Jimmie) Fiske and George (and Alicia) Fiske, and sister, Marion (and Robert) Prentiss of Upton, MA. The family will receive friends from 5-6:00 p.m. Sunday at Monte Vista Baptist Church with funeral services to follow at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Jerry Mantooth, Monte Vista Baptist Church, officiating. She will be buried at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, beside Al at his family church, Mt. Zion Christian Church, Santa Claus, Indiana.
