Irma Russell Miser, 93, of Maryville died Tuesday of complications following a hip fracture. Born July 28, 1921 to the late Nell (Kennedy) and Floyd Russell of Rockford, she was predeceased by husband Joe Miser, Jr., infant daughter Marjorie, and brother Dale K. Russell of Maryville. She is survived by children Joe Miser III and wife Debbie, of Huntsville, AL; Mary Lee (Miser) Reinert and husband Richard of Downingtown, PA; Ann (Miser) Lindblad and husband Peter of Hudson, MA; grandchildren Brad Miser, Nashville, TN; Andy Lindblad and wife Emily of Watertown, MA; Matt Lindblad, Montpelier, VT; Scott Lindblad, Brookline, MA; Dana Reinert, Washington, D.C.; and great-grandchildren, triplets Jack, Olive and Ella Lindblad, Watertown, MA. Other surviving relatives include niece Sue (Russell) Stevenson, Maryville; nephews Wade Russell of Maryville, and Dean Russell of Solana Beach, CA; cousins Barbara (Russell) Westbrook, Alcoa; Nancy Westbrook, Louisville, Helen (Westbrook) Haucke, Carthage; John Gibson and wife Lydia, Walland; Jane Gibson, Reno, NV; and Cherie (Lowry) Baker, Jacksonville, FL. Mrs. Miser worked at TVA during WWII, was librarian at John Sevier Elementary School, and later was a builder/developer, establishing Broady Court Condominiums and co-developing Broady Place subdivision in Maryville. She was instrumental in bringing Shannondale retirement center to Maryville and was the center's first resident. She attended Maryville College and, after raising her family, completed a B.S. degree from the University of Tennessee at age 46, becoming the first member of her family to earn a college degree. She joined New Providence Presbyterian Church in 1946 and later served as an elder and a chair of the deacons. The family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 9, at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home in Maryville with a memorial service following at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Habitat for Humanity.
