Joseph Charles Holdway

February 17, 1923 — March 1, 2012

Joseph Charles Holdway, 89, died on March 1, 2012 at Shannondale, where he had been a resident for seven years. A native of Hawkins County, he was the son of Hugh Harrison and Mayme Jones Holdway. An accounting graduate of the University of Tennessee, he was employed by BellSouth for 38 years, and at his retirement was manager of comptrollers for the state of Tennessee. Joe spent three years in the US Army in World War II, serving in the European theater. He was a resident of Nashville for many years. He is survived by a sister, Juanita Holdway Evans of Maryville; nieces Emily Evans Lenn of Knoxville and Elizabeth Evans Large of Maryville; great–niece Meredith Lenn Quillen of Louisville, Kentucky and great-nephews Joseph Lenn, Nathan Large and Ethan Large of Maryville.
