Kenneth L.E. ''Pop'' Eggers

November 17, 1929 — October 2, 2004

EGGERS, Kenneth Lee Elwood, “Pop”, age 77 of Maryville, passed away Saturday, October 2, 2004 at Blount Memorial Hospital. Kenneth was a member of Piney Level Baptist Church of Maryville. He worked at BellSouth and it’s predecessor, AT&T Southern Bell, for more than 38 years, retiring in 1990. He was born in Maryville to Roscoe and Evadell Leatherwood Eggers on November 17, 1926. Kenneth grew up with two sisters and two brothers in this mountain community. His love for the mountains remained strong throughout his life, and he returned to his beloved Maryville in the early seventies, after serving Southern Bell in South Carolina and Georgia, beginning in the mid-fifties, to work for the local Bellsouth organization. Well into his seventies, he explored the mountain roads and trails, especially to areas he visited as a boy, and the old home places and property owned by his parents, and passed on now to family. His memory of the people, places and events of the area was exceptional. Kenneth’s life exemplified the values associated with many of those who trace their local ancestry back generations: strength, an independent spirit, and a deep love of his fellow man, nature and the land. He was loved and appreciated by many, especially his children and family, and his memory and legacy will live on through them. Kenneth’s survivors include his children and their spouses, Son, Darrell Eggers and his wife Nancy of Happy Valley, daughter Sara Harlene Craven and her husband Sonny of Florida. Grandchildren, Scott Craven and Wife Elizabeth of Florida, Kara Ward and Husband Matt of Maryville, Brad Vittetoe of Georgia, Kristen Henderson of Maryville, Kari and Greg Doyle, Justin and Kylie Henderson, and Joel and Lauren Henderson all of Florida. Sister, Ruth Carroll and brother Rex Eggers both of Maryville. Also, several great-grandchildren survive him. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM Friday at Piney Level Baptist Church with Rev. George Macht officiating. The Interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville. In Lieu of Flowers memorial donations may be made to Piney Level Baptist Church, 3527 Piney Level Church Rd; Maryville, TN 37803
