Marie Evelyn Teffeteller Payne

Marie Evelyn Teffeteller Payne, born July 22, 1921, left her earthly home on Wednesday, June 6, at Blount Memorial Hospital. Being the true soldier she was D Day has new meaning for her family. She was a veteran of World War II. She and her brother, Roy, went to Washington DC last October on the Honor Air Flight. She was an avid quilter. She loved to travel with the Foothills Quilting Guild and her niece, Kay. She and her husband were foster parents over 300 children over 30 years. She was the first manager of South Blount Utility District. She at one time was quite active in civic organizations in Blount County, Past Girl and Boy Scout leader, DAV &VFW Auxiliary, 1st Friday, Garden Club, Past President Foothills Quilter Guild, Pleasant Hills Quilters. She was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. She was a long time tax preparer here in Blount County. She was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt, cousin, friend and YaYa to all of her family, close and extended. She is preceded in passing by parents, Oscar and Marilla (Loy) Teffeteller; husband, Col. Adam G. Payne; son, Charles M. Payne; nephew, Steve Teffeteller. She is survived by daughter, Marilla (MeMe) and husband Ronnie Cable; grandsons, Charles Buchanan, and Anson Cable and wife Leesa and children, AJ and Cason; brother, Roy Teffeteller; special nieces, Pat Teffeteller, Kay Geisweidt, Judy Yount; nephew, Mike Teffeteller; special great niece, Chea Wolden; several nieces, nephews and a host of cousins and special foster children. She will always be our Guardian Angel. Funeral services will be at 7:00 p.m. Saturday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Frank Mason and Rev. Carol Wilson officiating. Family and friends will meet at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Grandview Cemetery for the interment service with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Saturday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville.
