Martha Elizabeth (Betty) Parks

April 16, 1913 — January 3, 2008

PARKS, Martha Elizabeth, (Betty) age 94, passed into heaven January 3, 2008 at Park Place Care Center in Georgetown, TX. She was born on April 16, 1913, the 7th of 13 brothers and sisters. She graduated from Franklin County High School in Carnesville, GA. After marrying Joe Parks on December 24, 1933, Betty was a full-time homemaker, who made beautiful handmade gifts, which we will treasure, along with the love with which they were made. Joe and Betty moved to Maryville, TN in 1938 where they remained until Joe died in December 1999. Betty then moved to Park Place Assisted Living in Georgetown, TX to be close to her son, Skip. Betty was an active member of Broadway United Methodist Church in Maryville, where she was an active member of the FRINS group, a senior group who ministered to the sick and shut-ins. Waiting for Betty in Heaven are her husband, Joe Lambert Parks; parents, Walter Gordon and Mary Freeman Miller; six brothers, Maurice, Gordon, Hansel, Luther, Cliff and George Miller; three sisters, Sue Wham, Ruth Shirley, Anna Rogers and a great-granddaughter, Morgan Michell Parks, daughter of Joel and Terri Parks. Leaving behind to mourn her passing, but celebrating the life she lived is her son, Harville Miller (Skip) Parks and wife Gail of Georgetown, TX; daughter, Priscilla Kilgore of Signal Mtn., TN; daughter, JoElla and husband Archie Anderson of Maryville, TN; nine grandchildren, Joel Len Parks, Tracy Lee Parks, Orin Kilgore, Melinda Kilgore Ensley and Kristen Kilgore Johnson, Mary Kilgore Easley, Donny Anderson and Kenny Anderson and sisters, Ruby Cheek, Lois Morris and Lucy Purcell; 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A family graveside service will be conducted by Bryan Ensley, a family member, and held at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Broadway United Methodist Church, 309 E. Broadway, Maryville, TN 37804 to be used for their FRINS Ministry.
