Opal Jenkins Simpson

Opal Jenkins Simpson passed away peacefully and went home to be with the Lord March 5, 2022. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Carl Simpson; son, Roger Simpson; grandson, Richard “Ricky” Talley; granddaughter, Stacey Simpson; parents, Ella and Richard Jenkins; brother, Otis Jenkins (Pearl); four sisters, Annie Estelle McDonald (Tom), Ettea Mae Yarbrough (Everett), Elsie (Lynn).

She is survived by her daughter, Carlene Talley and son-in-law, Richard Talley; granddaughter, Lisa Worthington and husband, Ken Worthington, Jennifer Reece and husband, David Reece; grandson, Jeff Talley; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews who have cherished memories of the time spent with her; three stepsisters, Clara Ruth Townson, Evelyn, and Ruby.

Opal was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church and the Ladies Quilting Circle which she loved. She retired from Hertz and then worked for Nancy Lynn Fashions doing alterations.

She began her passion for sewing at six-year-old and soon became an expert seamstress. She made clothes for herself and her family. She began sewing for others making clothes, costumes, and doing alterations. She made beautiful quilts, including special ones for her grandchildren. She made the best furry snuggly blankets for all the family and then sold them to many people. Some of the favorite “snugglers” had school and college logos. People are still snuggling with their blankets.

Her story would not be complete without mentioning Opal married Carl on Christmas Day 1945 after waiting for him to return from three years’ service in World War II. They were reunited in heaven this past Saturday, “oh, what a glorious day”.

Receiving of friends will be held from 2:00-3:00 PM, Thursday, March 10th at Fairview United Methodist Church. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 PM with Pastor Mickey Rainwater, Music Minister Wesley Rouse, and Reverend Bob Dalton officiating.
