Ralph Lee Tulloch

TULLOCH, Ralph L., Master Sergeant, U. S. Marine Corps (Ret.), age 79 of Orlando, FL, passed away Monday, August 19, 2002, in Florida. He was born in Maryville and moved to Orlando in 1971 upon completion of 27 years of active duty and remained a most active member of his community. He was a faithful Parishioner of Redeemer Lutheran Church and worked for Holler/Scott Smith Oldsmobile for many years. Upon completion of recruit training at MCRD, Parris Island, SC in 1942, he joined the 1st Marine Division participating in America’s first offensive of the war against the Japanese on Guadalcanal. For his heroic and outstanding performance in combat, he was meritoriously promoted. He further served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. His additional duties were with the 3rd Marine Division, the Marine Corps bases at Parris Island, San Diego, Camp Lejeune and Quantico, where he distinguished himself as a weapons instructor and technician. He was honorably retired with the rank of Master Sergeant by Commandant of the Marine Corps, General Leonard F. Chapman, May 31, 1971, who commended his service “in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps”. He continued his relationship with his fellow Marines as a Life Member of the 1st and 3rd Marine Division Associations by attending all annual reunions. Serving as President of the Central Florida Chapter, he dedicated himself to the planning, preparation and conduct of the 1st Marine division’s successful 2001 national reunion in Orlando. In war, as in peace, he personified his Corps’ motto - “Semper Fidelis”. He was preceded in death by the passing, in 1995, of his beloved wife, Ruth. Survivors include: son, Scott of Summerville, SC; daughter, Kris Tulloch of Orlando; daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and Bruce Caruso of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; grandchildren, Ashley and Steven; brother, Fred Tulloch of Chicago, IL. A military graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grandview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Monday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home.
