Rev. Dr. Tom Fuhr

Dr. Tom Fuhr, born February 1, 1918 in Hastings, Nebraska, passed away on April 18, 2005 in Maryville, Tennessee. Tom is preceded in death by his parents Hayes McGuire Fuhr and Ruth Johnson Fuhr and his first wife Ruth Crumbly Fuhr. Survivors include his wife of 25 years, June Horst Fuhr, Children: Barbara Davis, Ann Strange, Susan Fuhr, David and Gail (Horst) Romer, and Dale and Teresa Horst; and Grandchildren: Jeffrey Davis, Alice Strange, Tommy and Jessica Horst, and Tiffany Horst. Dr. Fuhr graduated from Hastings College in Nebraska and attended Princeton Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey before receiving his Graduate Degree from Columbia Seminary in New York. He then continued his studies and received his Doctoral Degree form Columbia University. His ministry was far reaching. He was the Dean of Students in several Presbyterian related colleges, including Maryville College. In addition, Tom served as Pastor of Presbyterian churches in New York, Pennsylvania, Utah, California, and Tennessee. In retirement, he served several small churches in East Tennessee and was also Visitation Pastor for New Providence Presbyterian Church in Maryville. Tom was a member of the Presbytery of East Tennessee. During his spare time, Tom enjoyed many hobbies. Not only did he enjoy the special beauty offered by East Tennessee sights and locations, but he also was a world traveler, including being a Chaplain onboard Cunard's around-the-world cruise lines. In addition, he was an avid spectator sports fan and a Master Woodworker...''A Carpenter Minister...'' Reverend Steve Musick and Dr. Phil Bembower will conduct a Memorial Service at New Providence Presbyterian Church in Maryville on Sunday, April 24, 2005, at 4:00 P.M. Immediately following the service, friends will be received in the Westminister Hall. Interment in Hastings, Nebraska will take place at a later date. McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial donation may do so to one of the following: Hastings College Music Department, Hastings College, 710 N. Turner Avenue, Hastings, Nebraska, 68901; Maryville College Student Scholarship Fund, Maryville College, 502 East Lamar Alexander Parkway, Maryville, TN 37804; or New Providence Presbyterian Church, 703 West Broadway, Maryville, Tennessee, 37801.
