Rev. G. Kenneth Gates

THE REV. G. KENNETH GATES, DIED Monday 10/16/2023, HAVING LIVED 92 YEARS.

He was born and grew up in Nyack, New York, where he graduated from high school. In those war years he served in the Volunteer Fire Department and the Ambulance Corps.

With an enabling scholarship, he graduated from Franklin College in Indiana, Magna Cum Laude, having been elected to the History honorary and Alpha Honorary, and lettering in Track and Cross County and serving on the College Debate Team. He then graduated from Colgate Rochester Divinity School with a Master of Divinity Degree, and was later awarded a Doctor of Divinity Degree from the University of the Ozarks.

His ministry called him to serve as pastor to large Presbyterian Churches in Rochester, NY, Pittsburgh, PA, Wheeling, WV, Phoenix, AZ, Ponca City, OK, and Maryville, TN. Upon retirement he served four churches as Interim, and Supply when called. Dr. Gates served on numerous Committees of Presbytery and Synod, Moderated Presbytery, and as Commissioner to two General Assemblies, attending 25 years. Every year he attended Continuing Education events and Conferences for Pastors.

Kenneth and his wife Joan shared anniversaries and raised two sons, David (Eugenia) and Stephen (Anne). Dr. Gates will be buried with his wife's family in Bright, Indiana in a private family service. Memorial contributions may be made to Franklin College for scholarship purposes: Institutional Advancement, 101 Branigan Blvd., Franklin, IN 46131.
