Richard (Dick) G. Norville, Sr.

January 23, 1917 — November 8, 2011

Richard (Dick) G. Norville, Sr. Dick Norville was born on January 23, 1917 in Mobile, AL. He was given and official Appointment to Annapolis Naval Military Academy but graduated from Auburn University with degrees in electrical and mechanical engineering. In college, he was a member of Sigma Chi men’s fraternity and was honored with being selected to the University’s Honorary Society for Mechanical Engineer Tau Beta Pi. Upon his graduation he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Core of Engineers during World War II. He later accepted a job working for ALCOA (the Aluminum Company of America) establishing defense factories all over the Southeast responsible for the production of aluminum used for aircraft construction in World War II. He also went on to play a part in designing work for the new establishment of plants in Texas, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, South America, Russia and Australia. He worked for ALCOA for 40 years before retirement. He stayed close to ALCOA by starting his own company selling salvaged machinery and materials from the closure of the west ALCOA plant. Dick Norville was very active in the Blount County community and surely made the most of the social aspect of life. A member of the 25 Year Club, Toastmasters, and a charter member of ALCOA Kiwanis he wasn’t a stranger to hardly anyone. He was Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus and also a founding member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. He enjoyed many hobbies with his family and friends including golfing, sailing, bridge playing, water skiing and dove hunting. He also was heavily affiliated with Alcoa Little League in the 1950's. Dick married Kathleen Brannen on November 8, 1941. They lived a long, wonderful life together. His daughter Angela Reemelin and son Richard Gerow Norville, Jr., grandchildren Richard Reemelin, Kathleen Reemelin-Walker, Evan Olivia Norville, Thomas Gerow Norville, and brother Warren Norville, Sr. of Birmingham, AL and numerous nephews and nieces survived him. He passed in Orange Park, FL in the home of daughter Angela Reemelin on November 8, 2011. His passing would have marked the 70th Wedding Anniversary of his marriage to Kathleen Norville (who preceded him in death). The family will receive friends at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Friday, November 18, from 5-7:00 p.m. A rosary service will follow. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on Saturday, November 19, at 10:00 a.m. with Father Bill McNeeley officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
