Robert W. Peery, Sr.

Robert W. Peery, age 88 of Maryville, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2004, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was born in Maryville and lived there all his life. His early years were spent on Washington and Harper streets where he learned to swim in Pistol Creek. He was a man who loved Blount County. Bob was the oldest living member of the Peery family who settled in the Bethleham area in the 1820's. He attended Ft. Craig, graduated from Maryville High School and then graduated from Maryville College. While at Maryville College, he began working at ALCOA, Inc. and joined Green Meadow Country Club. In 2001, he was given a lifetime membership at Green Meadow Country Club for his years associated with the club. He discussed changes in grip and swing all his life and it helped shape and maintain his wonderful demeanor. Bob and his wife, Minnie Belle Peery, belonged to the First United Methodist Church in Maryville. He was an Assistant Scout Master for Troop 88 in the 1950's and loved to talk about the experiences he had with the scouts. He attended the National Jamboree in California, loved the Smokey Mountains and had hiked most of the trails. Most of all, he is etched in our memories as a good man who spent his life loving and helping others. He loved to travel and would always take family and friends and remembered the details of each trip. Now he is on his final trip and will be sorely missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Martha Peery; brother, Frank Peery; sisters, Mildred Julian and Edna Lequire. Survivors include his wife, Minnie Belle Peery; son, Robert W. Peery, Jr. and family, Lynn Peery and grandchildren, Leslie and John Peery; great grandson, Elijah Hamm; niece, Claudia L. Cagle was loved like a daughter; first cousins, Tommy, Wayne and Glenn Peery and other cousins. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brenda Carroll and Rev. Larry Carroll officiating. The interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Saturday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home.
