Sarah Joe Allen Talley Frier

Frier, Sarah Joe Allen Talley, age 95, of Maryville, died on Tuesday, June 13th, 2006, at Shannondale of Maryville. Born on July 6, 1910 and educated in Maryville, a life-long Presbyterian and certified member of the First Families of Tennessee, Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Emma Beals Allen, and her first loving husband of fifteen years, Gatlin T. Talley. She is survived by her loving husband of forty-five years, Maurice W. Frier; son and daughter-in-law, Don and Louise Talley; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Parks Hitch, Jr.; grandchildren, David Henry Talley, Donna and Mark Russell, John and Margaret (Mimi) Decker and Stephen and Julia Decker; step-grandchild, Virginia and David Holladay; great-grandchildren, Landon, Talley-Lane and Garrett Russell and Frank Allen and John Edward (Jay) Decker; step-great-granddaughters, Virginia, Mary Katherine and Claire Holladay; stepdaughters, Melinda and Walter Zimmerman, Suzanne and Pete Mecke and Jill F. Good, and step-son Hoyt and Chris Frier; step-grandchildren, Ben and Ivy Newton, Kathy and Steve Green, Matthew Mecke and Katie Mecke; step-great-grandchildren, Frances and Gabriel Newton and Autumn and Molly Green; and cousins, Nina C. Russell, Ben Allen and Margaret Cunningham. After graduating from Maryville College, Class of 1931, she taught high school and elementary school in Blount County, primarily teaching fourth and fifth grades at Alnwick School. Sarah was a devoted daughter, teacher, wife, mother, step-mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She delighted in being with her neighbors, and those who have received her gifts of love and kindness will cherish her memory. During her retirement years, she especially enjoyed traveling to Florida for the winters from her home in Maryland, and recently from Tennessee. Her family especially expresses their gratefulness to the medical staff at Blount Memorial Hospital, Oncology and Hospice programs and Shannondale Health Center of Maryville for their dedication to her care during her short illness. Family will gather at Magnolia Cemetery on Sunday, June 18th at 2:00 p.m. for the interment. A memorial service, officiated by Rev. William R. Barron, will be held at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home in Maryville on Sunday, June 18th at 3:00 p.m., with receiving of friends to follow immediately thereafter. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to New Providence Presbyterian Church, Maryville, Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church, Knoxville, the Blount County Public Library or the charity of your choice.
