Virgie Shields Irwin

IRWIN, Virgie Shields, age 91 of Maryville, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2003, at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, was a member of Dorcas Sunday School Class and The K.I.T. Club. She was a descendant of Cades Cove and she loved her gardening and quilting. Mrs. Irwin was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Irwin, brothers and sisters, Sam, Toy, Roy, Jane and Eunice. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Harold Hembree of Maryville; grandson, Sam Hembree of Maryville; granddaughter and husband, Janice and Jerry Garner of Maryville; great grandchildren, Mychal Hembree, Aimee Hembree, Chelsea Garner and Julie Garner; sister-in-law, Ailene Shields of Maryville; several nieces and nephews. The body will lie in state from 10-11:00 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Greg Long officiating. The interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Friday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home.
