Wanda Naomi King

Wanda Naomi [Hoover] King, age 91 of Maryville TN, died on May 12, 2007, at Asbury Place Health Center. She was born July 8, 1915, in Plattsburg MO to Ira M. and Letta [Bahney] Hoover and preceded in death by her parents, her former husband of 42 years Rufus B. King, Sr. of North Manchester IN, and her stepfather Akey R. Smith and a brother Ira Milton Hoover, both of Plattsburg, MO. Survivors include two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Shepherd of Ft. Scott KS and Ruth Lavonne Hoover of West Covina CA, and a brother, Samuel G. Hoover of Plattsburg MO; one daughter, Karen [King] Keim of Bethlehem PA, and three sons: Rufus B. King, Jr., married to Rebecca [Kintner] of Friendsville TN; Daryl King, married to Diana [Mason] of Demotte IN, and John Jay King of Idaho Falls ID; six grandchildren: Kevin King of Durham NC, Bradley King of Franklin TN, Elizabeth King of Indianapolis IN, Sara King of Columbus OH, Kristin [King] Bristol of Demotte IN, and Nathan Keim of Chicago IL.; and five great grandchildren. Ms King graduated from McPherson College in McPherson KS and had a Master?s Degree in Home Economics from the State University of Iowa in Iowa City. She taught Home Economics at McPherson College and at Bridgewater College in VA, before moving to Puerto Rico to be married and begin a family. During married life Ms King resided for several years in Puerto Rico, Bridgewater VA, Elgin, IL, and for 28 years in North Manchester, IN. In Indiana she taught secondary English and special education in the public schools; then took a position with the Child Welfare Department of Wabash County, IN. She left Indiana in 1988 and settled at Asbury Acres Retirement Home (now Asbury Place at Maryville) to be near her oldest son and family in Tennessee. Ms. King was a non-resident member of the Manchester Church of the Brethren in North Manchester IN and an affiliate member of New Providence Presbyterian Church in Maryville TN. She was active in church and community until late in her life. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Asbury Place. Arrangement are presently incomplete. There will be a family burial service in North Manchester IN at a later date. Donations may be sent to a local Hospice, or to the Hospice Foundation of America, 1. www.hospicefoundation.org.
