Wayne Leon Hyatt

Wayne Leon Hyatt, 93, of Maryville, passed away March 12, 2016 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was born April 8, 1922 in Waynesville, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Jefferson Hyatt and Marion Barr Hyatt; his brother, Hobart B. Hyatt, and his wife, Mary Garrett Hyatt. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Marion and Don Nation of Maryville; his son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Mary Beth Hyatt of Burlington, NC; 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Wayne was a long time member of Fairview United Methodist Church where he served in many leadership roles. He began working for TVA on the Fontana Dam project and later came to Maryville as a Substation Operator. He retired with 39 years and continued a second career of farming and cattle raising. Wayne loved traveling. He and Mary traveled throughout the U.S. with trips into Canada and Mexico. Together they visited all 50 state capital buildings. Later, he and his beloved dog, Mocha, took RV excursions as far as North Dakota and Texas, but mostly on the Blueridge Parkway and the Natchez Trace. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2016, at Fairview United Methodist Church. Family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wayne and Mary Hyatt Scholarship fund at Fairview United Methodist Church.
