Zola Russell Burns, 95, of Maryville went to be with the Lord at her home on Tuesday March 5, 2024. She was a faithful wife of seventy-one years to her late husband, George W. Burns. She was a member of her beloved St. Marks Methodist Church, and faithfully served as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher as well as serving others through preparing meals for fellowship gatherings. An avid reader with a love for nature, flowers, and The Smoky Mountains, she is described as easy to love. Known to family as the best Nana ever. Preceded in death by parents Willie E. and Thelma Gideon Russell, four sisters and one brother, and great-grandson James Weston Smith.
Survivors include children Brenda Smith (Weston) and Gary Burns (Linda); grandchildren Adam (Constance), Nathan (Maryem), Philip (Alyson), Andrew (Katherine), and Lydia Smith, Morgan and Matthew Burns. She always liked to slip candy to her Great-grandchildren, Ashlynn, Jake, Abby, Elliot, Luke, Knox, Evie, Silas, Mary, Lucy, Lydia, Micah, Charlotte, and Daniel. She is also survived by her caring sisters, Phyllis Chambers and Gail Gillespie and much loved family members Marcy Williams, Tommy and Kelley Morgan, Aunt Margaret Hill and several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to the Blount Senior Care Partners and Gentiva Hospice.
Visitation is 1pm-2pm with a service officiated by Reverend Rowland Buck to immediately follow on Saturday, March 9 at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home. Burial is scheduled at 3pm, at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donate to the St. Marks Methodist Church Compassion Fund at PO Box 37 Louisville, TN 37777.
