Alice Ann Fitzgerald Edwards, age 88, of Alcoa, passed away at her home on April 29, 2026.
Mrs. Edwards was born on June 16, 1937, and was married for 67 years to Dr. Charles Henry Edwards until his death in 2025. She is survived by her brother Tom Fitzgerald (Marian) and her children and grandchildren. She was mother to Paul Edwards (Ann), Tom Edwards (Sonya), Joan Ward (Tony), and John Edwards (Susan). She was grandmother to Charles, Michael, Lyndsay, Alex, David, Kate, Clare, Elizabeth and James and great grandmother to Gavin, Addison, and Aidan.
Alice studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Tennessee on scholarship. She was very active at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and School in Athens Georgia. One of her and Henry’s great achievements was their leadership in the continuation of St Joseph’s School in Athens, GA under the leadership of the Sisters Servants of Immaculate of Mary. After moving back to Alcoa, she and Henry were integral in the establishment and support of the traditional Catholic Latin Mass in eastern Tennessee and especially at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. She volunteered sewing numerous ornate vestments for use in Mass and other services.
A funeral Mass for Alice will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on May 6 at Holy Ghost Church in Knoxville. Rev. Dr. John Arthur Orr, pastor of Holy Ghost, will serve as the celebrant. A burial service will follow at Calvary Cemetery located in Knoxville.
