David Scott Hughes, age 55, of Maryville, TN, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. David was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and was the loving son of George and Kathy Drywater. He grew up with a strong connection to his family and faith. Later, he worked as a Physical Therapist Assistant, a role in which he helped others recover and improve their quality of life.
David married the love of his life, Dana Lynn Hughes, of 30 years, with whom he shared a beautiful life and raised three wonderful sons: Dillon, Dalton, and Devon Hughes. His family was his greatest pride and joy, and he poured his heart into being a loving husband and father.
A man of deep Christian faith, David encouraged everyone he met to live with purpose, grounded in faith, hope, and love. He believed deeply in living according to God’s word and was a source of spiritual encouragement to many. His kind spirit and steady faith left a lasting impression on all who knew him. His legacy of love and faith will continue to live on in the lives he touched.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dana Hughes; his sons, Dillon (and Brianna), Dalton, and Devon Hughes; and his mother, Kathy Drywater, sisters, Stacy Cantrell and Shannon Thurman; mother-in-law, Geraldine Depovelo; brother-in-law, Scott Depovelo. He was preceded in death by his father, George Drywater; his grandfather, Edward Lester; his grandmother, Reba Crain; his Father-in-law, Robert Depovelo, Grandfather and Grandmother-in-law, George and Dorothy Selmensberger.
David’s life was a testament to the power of faith and the strength of love. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who were blessed to know him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honor and remember David’s life and legacy. Details will be shared with family and friends once arrangements have been finalized. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to support the family with unexpected funeral expenses in David’s honor.
