Dr. Dan M. McGill- age 93, formerly of Maryville, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2013, in Bala Cynwyd, PA. He was a member of Clover Hill Presbyterian Church and Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church in PA. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Maryville College in 1940. He was a Professor at U. T. Knoxville, was awarded the Julian Prize Associate Professor of Insurance at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he taught from 1948-1951 and the University of PA Occupance. He was the first Frederick Eckert Professor of Life Insurance in the United States in 1951 and was a consultant to the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve. Dr. McGill testified before Congress concerning different matters, enjoyed several Presidential appointments, was a noted expert in pensions for different corporations and countries and was chairman of the Wharton School of Finance. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melanie McGill; brothers and sisters-in-law, Fielding and Kate Clenden McGill, Bill and Frances Owen McGill, Horace and Ann Poage McGill, Howard and Alma Clemens McGill; sister and brother-in-law, Eloise McGill and John West; brother-in-law, James Lillard; sister-in-law, Wilma Edington McGill Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Elaine Kim McGill; son from a previous marriage, Doug; several grandchildren; brother, Marvin McGill; sister, Marcelle Lillard; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Clover Hill Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tom Gilliland officiating. The interment will follow in Clover Hill Cemetery.
