Geoffrey Andrew “Hitch” Hitchcock, 73, of Alcoa, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Asbury Place Waters Hospice Care.
Geoff fought a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease for the past 13 years. He is now resting in the heavenly arms of God, and his suffering has ended. His son Joey Hitchcock was his dad’s caregiver throughout his years-long health battle and would appreciate your prayers as he plans to lay his dad to rest.
Geoff was a proud veteran having served our country in the US Air Force. He worked for many years as a field service engineer for Perkin-Elmer and later at Abbott Labs. He was an avid University of Tennessee fan and was well known on local sports talk radio as “Hitch.” He was a beloved father, son and brother and will be terribly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Frances Hitchcock and Wilbur Joseph Hitchcock of Oak Ridge, TN. He is survived by his son Joseph (Joey) Hitchcock; brothers Twain Hitchcock and Mark Hitchcock; and sisters Veronica Long and Yvonne Hitchcock. He is also survived by several dear to his heart nieces and nephews and many other close friends and family members too extensive to name.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 19th at 10:00am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oak Ridge, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00am and burial at 2:00pm at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on Governor John Sevier Highway in Knoxville. Military honors will be provided by the US Air Force Honor Guard.
The family asks that any memorials be in the form of donations in Geoff’s memory to the PJ Parkinson’s Support Group of Blount County at https://www.pjparkinsons.org/support-groups where Geoff enjoyed and looked forward to his monthly support group meetings with other men and women who were battling Parkinson’s Disease.
