George Vernon Wilson passed away peacefully at 4:00 PM on April 29, 2025, at Ben Atchley Veterans Home. He was 92 with a birthday coming up in May. He loved his Jesus and singing gospel songs, his church at Broadway, fishing, Florida vacations, hotdogs and spaghetti and his “sweet love”, June. They enjoyed traveling extensively. He was a purchasing agent for the City of Maryville, youth director at Broadway Baptist, Emmanuel Baptist Church and Pleasant Grove and after retiring, worked at Olympia Health Club until he was 90! He sang with the Wilson Brothers, the choir and in quartets at his church. His legacy is the wonderful testimony of honesty, integrity, faith and love of God and family. He was in the US Army during the Korean War while serving in Germany. He was a member of Broadway Baptist Church for 69 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harve and Louisa Wilson; brothers, John, Fred, Charlie, Wade, Jesse, Jimmy, Paul, Howard Ray; sister, Pollye.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, June Abbott Wilson; brothers-in-law, Carl Abbott, Don Abbott; nephew, Greg and Dianne Wilson; niece, Lisa and Pete Xiques; many other nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 PM. Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Broadway Baptist Church with a service to follow at 2:00 PM with Rev. Tony Collins officiating. Family and friends will meet at Bethel Baptist Cemetery in Townsend immediately following the service for the interment.
