James Edward Anderson passed away Wednesday April 30th at Veterans Nursing Home in Clinton, Tennessee. James was an honorable veteran of the U.S. Army. Upon his discharge, he began a career with the then Capitol Airlines which became United Airlines where he retired after 42 years of dedicated employment. He began working in New York's LaGuardia airport. James was transferred to Patrick Henry Field in Newport News in Newport News, Virginia where he met his wife, Shirley, who was from Richmond, Virginia. Shortly after their wedding, he was unexpectedly offered a position close to his home at McGhee Tyson where he would work for 40 years. They were married for 63 years until Shirley's passing in 2016.Together they raised 7 children,10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Other than the obvious love and appreciation for children, James also enjoyed all sports, especially, his beloved Rebel football team where he was a 30 year season ticket holder watching many of his children and grandchildren perform on the field. James maintained his family's third generation home located on the Parkway in Maryville, Tennessee. He would often relax on his front porch wearing his signature straw hat and wave to the commuters as they acknowledged his perch. He also enjoyed watching the sunset from his location on his porch while whistling along with avian friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Eddie, wife Shirley and granddaughter, Ashley.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Melanie Anderson and Tim Counts, Janie and Glenn Beeson. Sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Kim Anderson, Jimmy and Lisa Anderson, Johnny and Angela Anderson, son, Archie Anderson. The Anderson family would like to offer a very special "Thank you" to the most recent care providers, Tammy, Marsha and Arin, who were very loving and comforting during our Father's final days.
