James R. Tomlinson

James R. Tomlinson, age 88, passed away on September 8th, 2025.

Jim was born to the late Russell and Hazel Tomlinson and spent most of his life in Indiana where he developed a lifelong passion for restoring cars. Jim worked for the Edward C Grande company and Herf Jones for many years, he retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 20 years of dedicated service.

In retirement, Jim moved to Florida, where he met and married the love of his life, Irene, in 2001. The couple later made their home in Maryville, where Jim continued to enjoy his hobbies and spending time with family.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Irene (Slater) Tomlinson; his sister, Mary Walston; and his children, David Tomlinson (Debbie) , Mary Mills and Jim Tomlinson. He was a proud grandfather to Amanda Bentley (Chris), Lindsey Webb (Eric), Brittany Tomlinson, Parker Mills, and Madison Mills, and a beloved great-grandfather to Caroline and Emerson Bentley, Reese, Riley James, and Mackenzie Webb.

Jim also held a special place in his heart for his extended family of Tim and Dawn Slater, Ashley (David), Amanda Slater and was “PaPa” to Zoey and Levi Fultz.

A visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday September 13th at Middlesettlements Methodist Church, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 pm officiated by Rev. Magan Stubblefield. Interment will take place at the MiddleSettlements Methodist Church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Middlesettlements Cemetery Fund.
