John Houston Hitch, age 77 of Knoxville, passed away Friday, March 3, 2012, at St. Mary’s Select in Knoxville. He was a member of Clark’s Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church, had the TN Valley Barn Dance and Radio Shows on WKVL, was a comedian, whose alias was the character, Zero, was owner/operator of the “Town of Mayberry†at their home. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Dewey and Emma Cochran Hitch; brother, Don Hitch; sisters, Lillian Lewis, Dorothy Bond, Virginia Breedlove. Survivors include his wife, Ruby Hitch; daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Tim Porter of Tallassee; sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Ellen Hitch of Maryville, Donny and Tina Hitch of Greenback; stepson and wife, Earl and Danielle Edwards of Dayton, OH; 4 grandchildren, Tiffany Goodson, Blake Hitch, Hunter and Hailey Edwards; brother, Charles Hitch of Maryville; sisters, Mary Shropshire, Margaret Chapman, Ina Carver all of Maryville; mother-in-law, Christina Riffey and numerous other in-laws; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 8:00 p.m. Sunday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Nicely and Sammy Sawyer officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Clark’s Grove Cemetery for the interment service. The family will receive friends from 5-8:00 p.m. Sunday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home.
