J. R. Buchanan - age 77 of Happy Valley passed away Tuesday August 3, 2004 at his home. He was a member of Happy Valley Missionary Baptist Church and was a retired Park Ranger from the Great Smoky Mountain National Park Service. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army serving during WWII. He was preceded in death by his parents, Green and Dosha Hearon Buchanan; brothers, Marvin Leon “Joe” Buchanan, and Luke Buchanan. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Hatley Buchanan; son and daughter-in-law, Wesley and Yolanda Buchanan, of Maryville; daughter and son-in-law, Vicky and Ronnie Taylor, of Petros, TN.; step-mother, Annie Buchanan; granddaughters, Bethany Buchanan, and Linsay Buchanan; step-granddaughter, Emily Taylor; brother, Tom Buchanan; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bert and Thelma Buchanan, Wayne and Carolyn Buchanan, all of Maryville, Leonard and Wanda Buchanan, of Locust Grove, GA, James and Lois Buchanan, of Maryville; Sisters and brothers-in-law, Janice and Rich Novotny, of Cataula, GA, Rosemary and Jimmy Hannah, of Greenback, Hope and Jimmie Rapier, Lorraine and Tommy Ray, both of Maryville; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 8:00 P.M. Friday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Whitehead and Rev. Beecher Whitehead officiating. Family and friends will meet 12:00 noon Saturday at Happy Valley Missionary Baptist Cemetery for the interment service. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 P.M. Friday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville, 982-6812.
