The world lost a great man with the passing of Marshall Williams, 64, of Walland, who left us on Sunday, March 26th for his heavenly home. Marshall was beloved by countless people across East Tennessee and beyond for his quick wit, infectious smile, selfless attitude, and kind and compassionate spirit. Marshall never met a stranger, and he could empathize with one within minutes of first meeting.
He worked tirelessly throughout his life to make sure that his family was provided for and knew they were loved. The biggest recipient of his love was his wife of 43 years, Laurie (Myers) Williams. Together they built a loving home and raised 10 children. Marshall loved to attend his children's sports competitions and extracurricular activities. He was no stranger to any school gym, field, track, or auditorium. In recent years he supported and cheered for his grandchildren with just as much passion as he showed for his children during their younger years.
Marshall was a long-time employee of the University of Tennessee Medical Center. He joined the Medical Center in 1991 and had planned to retire in April of 2023. Marshall genuinely enjoyed his job and cherished all relationships he made during his 32 years.
He is preceded in death by parents Esley and Marcelle Williams. Also preceding him in death are brothers Ronnie, Alan, and Tom Williams and sister Judy Carpenter.
He is survived by his wife Laurie, daughters and sons Emilee (Kevin) Riehn, Bonnee (Tyrel) Paumen, Lyndsee (Jimmy) Pearson, Heather Williams, Jayden Williams, Tommy Williams, Chris (LeeAnna) Williams, Kevin Williams, Will Williams, and Jonas Williams. He loved being the PawPaw to his 11 grandchildren and we are heartbroken he will not be able to see his grandsons Tyler, Brody, Hayden, Oliver, Emmit, Easton, Waylon, and granddaughters Gracie, Audree, Tylee, and Eleanor grow up. He is also survived by his sister Gail (Bill) Glandon, mother-in-law Jerry Myers, sisters-in-law Nancy Williams and Lisa Myers, and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind dozens and dozens of friends who were like family to him.
Friends and family are invited to gather for a Celebration of Marshall’s Life from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at The Pavilion at Hunter Valley Farm with a Life Tribute to follow at the amphitheater. The University of Tennessee Medical Center chaplains Reverend Steve Sexton, Brad Hood, Dexter Mims Sr., and Ben Lewis will officiate. In lieu of flowers, Marshall would want you to honor him by telling someone a joke to lift their spirits, help someone without being asked, or just simply reaching out to tell someone how much you love them. If you still want to do something to celebrate Marshall’s life, please consider a donation to the American Diabetes Association. The world is a bit darker with Marshall having left us, but those of us who cared about him will continue learning from his example and putting love and generosity into the world.
