Maryville, TN

Mary Ruth Hodge, 73, of Maryville, Tennessee, transitioned to her heavenly home on June 6, 2025. Born on October 29, 1951, in Knoxville, TN, Mary was known for her strength, resilience, and fierce personality in spite of her petite frame. Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dorian. Left to cherish her memory are her children, son Robert Ernest Johnson II and his wife Sharan of Maryville, TN, and daughter Hylea Marie Johnson of Greensboro, NC. Mary was immensely proud of her five grandchildren: Mora Steele, Westin Coley, Maseyn McFarlane, Chloe Johnson, and Aizen Johnson; as well as her great-grandchildren Jackson Steele and Eleanor Ruth Steele. She also leaves behind her much-loved niece, Cindy Scott. An entrepreneur driven by diligence and compassion, Mary embodied resilience throughout her life's challenges without losing her humor and warmth, creating a comforting atmosphere wherever she went. She was ever-generous in spirit, passionate about helping local animal rescues and outreach ministries. Animals, especially pigs, always held a special place in her heart. Mary had a comforting ability to bring joy, laughter, and support during difficult times, finding great happiness in providing opportunities for new adventures among friends and family. She loved relaxing on sunny beaches and found happiness in the most simple pleasures such as her nightly stale popcorn, a coke, and reading a good book. Her chocolate chip cookies were legendary, and her heart was as generous as her laughter was infectious. Mary was enthusiastic about music and staying connected to the larger world. Her faith in God served as an anchor throughout her life, guiding and giving her strength in her later years. Mary will be laid to rest alongside her late husband, Dorian Adrian Adams, in a private ceremony at the East TN State Veterans Cemetery in Knoxville. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Welcome to your heavenly home, Mama. We're sure it is beautiful there, and you are pain-free.
