Mary Elizabeth Holmes, known to many as “Memer” passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026 at the age of 89. Mary was born in Johnson City, TN. She graduated Salutatorian from Jonesboro High School. She moved to Alcoa, TN where she raised her family and worked at Walker’s Supply Company for over 30 years. She was an avid hiker in her retirement years and loved all things nature. She hiked many trails in the Great Smokey Mountains and was the most proud of hiking Mt. Leconte three times, once on her 75th birthday. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend that was a beacon of light to everyone she met. Her character was defined by strength, love, and care. She loved spending time with her family and welcomed everyone to her home with loving arms. Her house felt like a sanctuary to many people. She spent her last days surrounded by those she loved the most.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde, parents Everette and Myrtle Bishop, brothers Bob and Harold Bishop, sister Betty Ruth Hopson. She is survived by her children, her son Alan (Debbie) Holmes, daughters Karen (Jim) Whaley and Judy (Brad) Shore. Her grandchildren: Wes (Mia) Holmes, Brad (Janae) Holmes, Sarah (Ben) Crawford, Allison Shore, Delaney (Clayton) Williams, Jack (Autumn) McReynolds and great grandchildren: Landon, Brantley, Lizzy, Boyd, Ty, Eva Kate, Wren, Callie, and Mary Clayton.
