Phillip “Phil” Stephen Strasser, 75, passed away peacefully at his home in Vonore, Tennessee on August 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on December 7, 1949, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Phil proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1973, stationed aboard the USS Ranger. After his service, he settled near his siblings in Boca Raton, Florida, where he met the love of his life, Lorraine. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and family over 46 wonderful years.
Phil had a distinguished 37-year career with the City of Boca Raton Fire Department, where he was deeply dedicated to serving his community and formed lifelong friendships. During retirement Phil and Lorraine relocated to Vonore, Tennessee where they built a home and enjoyed lake life. Known for his dependable nature and strong work ethic, Phil was the kind of man who could be counted on in any situation.
A skilled handyman and woodworker, Phil took pride in building and fixing things. He was always happy to lend a hand to family and friends. He enjoyed riding his Harley, boating on the water, and spending quality time with his family including his grandchildren, who adored their “Pa.” Phil also had a love for dogs and was known to drive around with dog treats for his canine friends.
Phil is survived by his beloved wife Lorraine (née Bermel) Strasser; daughters Allison Hartung and Shannon (Daniel) Ferry; grandchildren Ryan and Quinn Hartung, and Cecilia and Harrison Ferry; and siblings William “Mike” (Mary) Strasser, Christine Strasser, and Katherine (Abdulaziz) Al-Khabbaz. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Patricia (née Reilly) Strasser, and his uncle, Stephen Reilly.
Phil’s legacy is one of service, family, and quiet strength. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Tellico Village Toqua Pavilion on October 19, 2025, at 2pm by the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Phil’s memory to American Lung Association or University of Tennessee Hospice Services.
