On September 23, 2025, Robert L. Byrd, Jr. was welcomed into his eternal heavenly home after suffering a recent fall.

He was preceded in death by his: parents, Robert L. Byrd, Sr. and Bessie Biggs Byrd; step-father, Carroll P. Byrd; father in-law, Henry Lee Myers; mother in-law, Angie Caylor Myers; brother in-law, Gene (Christine) Farmer; sister in-law, Marjorie (John P) Dawn Bradshaw Byrd; brother in-law, Wayne (Norma) Myers; sister in-law, Norma (Wayne) Myers Gombert; brother in-law, Van (Joann) Myers; sister in-law Hilda (Van) Bauer Myers; brother in-law, James (Jean) Clabough; sister in-law, Jean (James) Myers Clabough; sister in-law Marlene (Tom) Trentham Myers and nephew, Phillip David Barnes.

Robert is survived by his: wife of 62 years, Marilyn Myers Byrd; daughter, Kelly (Dave) Byrd Wilson; brothers, John P. Byrd, James (Linda) Byrd; sisters Joanna (David) Whitmore and Christine Farmer; brother in-law, David (Joanna) Whitmore); brother in-law, Tom (Marlene); sister in-law, Joann (Van) Davis Myers and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by in-laws, George and Corinne Reed Wilson of Upper Arlington, Ohio.

Many knew Robert as Bob or Bobby, and he was a proud Everett High School graduate. For a brief time, he worked at McCammon-Ammons Funeral Home. Much of his career was in the newspaper business, having worked at The Daily Times and the Knoxville News Sentinel as Photo Comp Technician.

In addition to his love of family, he enjoyed travel, trivia, and good food. Traveling to four continents, he had a remarkable recall of places experienced on any given date of the year.

He and the family were members of 1st United Methodist Church in Maryville and former members of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Maryville.

We would like to thank those who supported his care, both Prisma Blount Memorial Hospital and Morning View Transitional Care Center.

Services will be held at McCammon Ammons Click Funeral Home on Saturday, September 27, 2025. The family will receive friends from 11AM until 1PM, and the funeral service will begin at 1PM. Interment will follow at Bethel Baptist Cemetery in Townsend.

Officiating the service will be Reverend James Byrd, brother, and Reverend Jimmy Byrd, nephew of Robert.
