It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of "Shirley" Jean Crisp Canaway, who left this world peacefully on June 17, 2025, at the age of 82, after a brave battle with cancer. Born November 7, 1942. She was a member at Sevier Heights Baptist Church and loved studying and following the word of God. Shirley graced the lives of those around her with love, kindness, and an unwavering spirit that remained strong until her final moments.
Shirley was a beloved wife and is survived by her devoted husband, David Canaway, who stood by her side through thick and thin. Their love story was one for the ages, characterized by shared dreams, endless laughter, and an unbreakable bond that inspired all who knew them.
In addition to her husband, Shirley leaves behind a cherished family, including her brother Gary Hankins and his wife Aggie, who provided support and laughter throughout her life. She was a loving aunt, and her niece will forever hold fond memories of their time together, filled with stories, warmth, and joy.
Shirley’s family expanded with the addition of her stepchildren. She is survived by her stepdaughter, Melanie Bell and her stepson, Sean Canaway. Shirley embraced her role as a stepmother with grace and affection, creating lasting connections that enriched her life and theirs.
Residing in Louisville, TN, Shirley touched the hearts of many in her community. Her kindness and generosity knew no bounds, and she was always there to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel special, and her warm smile could light up even the darkest days.
Shirley's legacy is one of love, resilience, and unwavering strength. She faced her illness with courage and dignity, inspiring her loved ones to cherish every moment and to live life to the fullest.
As we remember Shirley, let us celebrate the wonderful life she led and the countless lives she impacted. Her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. In her honor, let us strive to emulate her kindness, compassion, and grace.

Friends may pay their respects and sign the register book from 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM, Sunday, June 22nd at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home. Family and friends will meet at 12:30 PM, Monday, June 23rd at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery Chapel, John Sevier Highway, for a service with Rev. Charlie McNutt officiating.
