Shirley Dean Reaves Hasty

Shirley Dean Reaves Hasty, 90, of Maryville, TN passed away on September 10, 2025, at Ben Atchley Tennessee State Veterans’ Home.

She was a graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School and Johnson Bible College. She was a dear friend to anyone that she met and was a loving and giving person always putting others before herself. She devoted her life to serving Jesus Christ and demonstrating his love through her actions. Shirley ministered alongside Troy at First Christian church in Etowah, TN; Mountain View Church of Christ, Maryville, TN; Center Christian Church, Mays, IN; First Christian Church, Maryville, TN; and Northside Christian Church, Durham, NC where they retired from 30+ years in the ministry. A true Proverbs 31 woman – “Honor her for all her hands have done and let her works bring her praise at the city gate”.

Shirley was born on December 26, 1934, to Dallas and Mary (Faison) Reaves. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Edward Troy Hasty. She was the last surviving sibling of brother, Phillip Reaves and sisters, Viola Daugherty, Doris Taylor, Betsy Koruc, and Rose Frank. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Vernon Reese, Jr.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Mark Hasty (Gaye), Dawn Reese (Gary Lunsford), Lance Hasty (Chelon); grandchildren, Mark Hasty, Jr. (Ashlee), Marissa Hasty Lambert (Allen) Tricia Egbe (Monday) and Courtney Carrington (Teddy), Dryden and Padgett “Aaron” Hasty; 8 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Cedarwood Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids, NC with Rev. Daniel West officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Troy and Shirley Hasty Scholarship Fund at Johnson University, 7900 Johnson Drive, Knoxville, TN. 37998, which she always loved and supported.

The family is deeply grateful to the staff at Ben Atchley who so lovingly cared for Shirley the past year.
