Suzanne Stockfisch

January 24, 1940 — September 19, 2025

Maryville, TN

Suzanne Stockfisch, devoted wife, cherished mother, beloved teacher, and faithful servant of God, passed away on September 19th at the age of 85. Her life was a tapestry of love, joy, creativity, and unwavering faith. She poured her heart into her family, church, friends, students, and the wider community. She was actively involved in the Maryville Garden Club, the Kiwanis Club of Maryville, and FAB (Fine Arts Blount) in Historic Downtown Maryville, where her watercolors, prints, pottery, and oil pastels were exhibited.

Born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to the late Elizabeth Wofford and Edwin Russel Morgan, she grew up in Greenville, Mississippi, where she was often featured in The Delta Democrat-Times for her awards, pageants, and civic involvement. In high school, she was named Miss Greenville High School, DAR Good Citizenship Girl, and received a scholarship for outstanding senior. She played in the school band and continued a lifelong love of dance.

She went on to attend Mississippi State College for Women, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts and was honored by Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges in 1962. It was at MSCW where she caught the eye of “Charles Ray” Stockfisch. After graduation, the young couple married and relocated to the Washington, D.C. area, where Charles Ray worked as a highway engineer for the Department of Transportation and Suzanne taught art. She earned a Master of Fine Arts in Art History from the University of Maryland. Soon after, Suzanne embraced her most cherished role —motherhood. While living in Northern Virginia, she served her church as a Sunday School teacher and organist and enjoyed teaching art at the high school level.

In the mid-1990s, Suzanne and Charles retired and moved to Maryville, TN, to build their “dream home” overlooking the Smoky Mountains. Suzanne always loved the beauty of God’s creation, finding joy and peace in nature’s grand design. She watched for the songbird, noted the unfolding petal, and appreciated the changing hues of a sunrise. Her life was a testament to grace in action, always seeking to glorify God through kindness, encouragement, selflessness, and living fearlessly. Patriotic and principled, she held a deep respect for her country and the values it was founded upon.

Suzanne is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Charles Ray Stockfisch (1937– 2016), and survived by her two daughters, Lisa Bransom (Winston-Salem, NC) and Laura Morrow and husband Chuck Morrow (Tallahassee, FL), and her four grandchildren, Skylar Sophia Bransom, Logan Emerson Bransom, Audrey Grace Morrow, and Gretchen Hope Morrow.

Suzanne will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered for the joyous life she lived and the love she expressed. No public service will be held, but the family welcomes your thoughts and memories if you would like to share them in the guest book (below).
